Will the recently concluded 1st Chicken Inasal Festival make it to Guinness?

thumbnail image of the crowd at the 1st Chicken Inasal Festival in Bacolod CityMmmmm…!!! Something’s cooking at the parking lot!

We were inside the North Wing of SM City-Bacolod last Tuesday and the smoke wafting in as people came through the doors was enough to awaken our curiosity (and appetite) to see what the buzz was all about. It was the highlight of the 1st Chicken Inasal Festival in Bacolod City as almost 4-kilometers length of barbecue grill was set up at the parking lot area. The event was an organized effort by the local government and some private entities to break the current Guinness world record for the longest grill at 3.8 kilometers held by Sto. Tomas in Pangasinan.

Nope, don’t call the fire station please… 🙂

Amidst the thick smoke, one can see a long line of barbecue grill spanning the parking lot where the participants cook their marinated chicken on sticks. The total grill length for the city’s recently concluded festival highlight was determined at 3.985 kilometers, but this has to undergo a process of validation that would take about four to six weeks yet by the Guinness Book of World Records representatives.

Getting busy on the grill…

…and it’s all because of this! 🙂

It was about 8 PM when we dropped by the parking lot and most of the participants have already left.

I think the organizers didn’t expect the affair to last until evening as the parking lot area wasn’t provided with extra outdoor illumination. Thus, my apologies for the dark and grainy photos. Incidentally, you can just imagine how one would smell after being exposed to all that thick barbecue smoke! 🙂

Bacolod City is famous for its tasty chicken inasal (chicken barbecue) and this food festival which will then be held annually is another way to showcase this product on a global scale. Being a first attempt, it will surely be better organized next year. World record or not, it is another boost to the city’s tourism industry and we’re looking forward to joining the fun next year!

He he… all that smoke didn’t have the effect of making us crave for chicken inasal. We went to Bob’s instead for dinner. I do agree, our chicken inasal is the best! 😉

Thanks for appreciating the pictures though I wish I came up with a better one for the close up of the chicken inasal.
