The fascinating and historic side of beautiful Austria
Enchanting Austria is one place not to miss if you are considering a vacation destination. You would be transported to the fairy-tale times of kings and queens, which were really once true and happening in this country long before, when you see the preserved palaces, castles and buildings of the old times still existing, as you stroll and go around the place. They surely can attest to its glorious past.
For the sports-loving, they may start their adventure in Innsbruck, where two winter Olympics were held. Whether you are with a group of friends or with a guided tour, I’m sure you will not miss historic Olympic venues the place offers, and you can take the opportunity to buy souvenir items while there.
The beautiful and scenic Wolfgangsee Lake in Salzburg, Austria
Don’t miss the historic city of Salzburg, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the most renowned composers of all time was born, and which offers varied sites of tourist attraction. It hosts a famous music festival, the Salzburg Festival. This lovely place was also the setting of the celebrated and popular movie, “The Sound of Music“, and this adds to the places an avid follower of the musical has to visit. The Salzburg Cathedral which played a role as the venue of the marriage of the main characters should therefore not be missed. Guided tours surely include this, and other places from the movie, in their itinerary. The Mirabell Palace is another must-see tourist spot with its beautiful and well-maintained gardens.
If you lean to be historical, go up, up to the mountains to the notorious place called Berchtesgaden, the place of the historic Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), the infamous dictator’s retreat place. I refer here to Hitler. The trip going up there may be difficult as it is winding and steep, but reaching the top of the mountain where it is, is compensating, as the view is breathlessly beautiful.
When you’re nearly on top of the mountain where the Eagles Nest is, most guided tours will bring you through a strange tunnel, and also to an elevator, where the infamous Hitler himself used to ride up and down, to the Eagle’s Nest. Up there is the topmost part of the mountain and you can not only see, but also move around, the dictator’s villa. You should then take pictures of these views 360 degrees around, so as not to miss the unequaled beauty of these magnificent mountains.
For museum lovers, the Sisi Museum is a building showing souvenirs of the Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Tourists are entertained by the historic Imperial apartments and other artifacts and treasures during the reign of the Empress. The Hofburg Museum, where the imperial jewels which can be traced back to the Hapsburg dynasty are shown, is another fantastic place to visit. Also noteworthy is the Naturhistorisches Museum, housing many ancient pieces of art. There are indeed many spectacular places of interest in the city of Austria.
