St. Thomas vacation: Transport modes in exploring the island

In the U.S. Virgin Islands, a well-known exotic destination for tourists is St. Thomas. This island offers a lot of activities and sights to its visitors and guests, thus a travel itinerary is best planned before your trip. To make the most of your vacation, don’t be like most travelers who just think about getting to St. Thomas and not coming up with a travel plan, most especially with choosing the mode of transportation for going around the island. You can choose to tour by yourself or with help from the locals. Depending on how you would like to move about, the island offers different modes of transportation for tourists.

For those who would like to do a lot sightseeing around the island freely by themselves, driving gives them the most advantage than other transportation modes. Driving around the island is the most popular option for tourists, and fortunately car rentals are available. The whole island can be explored easily and most destinations can be reached within your vacation stay. Just be sure to get temporary auto insurance policy for your rented vehicle as your travel insurance might not cover driving.

A car rental option can be costly though if you’re on a budget, and some tourists may not be confident with driving in unfamiliar roads. Thus, the alternative of taking bus rides as economical means is another choice as there are regular bus routes for tourists to take them to popular spots in the islands as well as shopping centers.

Another means of traveling around the island is via taxi cabs. These are convenient transport options but are rather costly since usually the cab drivers are not monitoring the distance traveled and no taxi meters are used. To be careful about staying within your budget, it is best to negotiate with the taxi driver before engaging his services.

Of course, there are other ways of getting you around St. Thomas. If you are lucky to have your accommodation in a central spot, you may just need to walk or rent a bicycle to get you to the island’s best tourist attractions. A beachfront hotel resort for instance may be a bit pricey but this offers the best scenic advantage and convenience in taking short trips to the beach.

I need to make it down to the Islands… I think it will be best to wait until winter and the snow starts falling!
