Sky-high amusement rides at the Crown Regency Hotel &Towers in Cebu

At 40 stories high in Fuente Osmena, Cebu City, the Crown Regency Hotel &Towers stands out not just as another high-rise building. What makes it unique is not only the breathtaking city view it offers but its exciting sky-high amusement rides for thrill seekers as well. Aside from being recognized as a towering hotel among its neighboring buildings, it is also known as the home of the Edge Coaster, Sky Walk Extreme and the upcoming Insanity Orbit. These weird-sounding names are actually the thrilling amusement rides as part of the Sky Experience Adventure.

Those who would like to view the city like a bird hovering over can do so with the Edge Coaster, a ride which takes you around the edge of the building while being strapped to your seat. Riders can adjust a lever that will tilt their seats up to 55 degrees downward if they want to have a better view below. You bet, this is not advisable for those who have fear of heights!

Another challenge is the Skywalk Extreme where you walk over a see-through glass at the 37th Floor, giving you the feeling of walking on air. There’s also the upcoming Insanity Orbit installed at the rooftop, where passengers are taken for an “insanity” ride as they are strapped to escape proof hanging seats that will spin them outward, this gives them the feeling of being thrown away in the sky. Incidentally, the first for this kind of ride is the famous Insanity the Ride, one of the attractions of Stratosphere Las Vegas. Whew. My friend Gigi, her hubby and two kids were brave enough to try the Edge Coaster ride on New Year’s Day. The coaster can accommodate two passengers, thus she and her son were partners, while her hubby and daughter were on another coaster. Here are some photos to prove how daring they were. These photos were taken by an Edge Coaster official photographer.

They were also given a certificate of completion with date, time and weather conditions signed by the Crown Regency Hotel & Towers chairman Richard L. King with the following statement: “We hereby certify that _____ has successfully completed the ride on the World’s First & Only Edge Coaster around the 38th level outer-rim of Crown Regency Hotel & Towers, the tallest hotel tower in the country, standing 40 stories high at Fuente Osmena, the heart of Cebu City in the Philippines.”

Whaaat…the country’s tallest hotel is only 40 stories high? Oh well. 😉

In my previous post, I recounted our experience at Thailand’s Baiyoke Sky Hotel’s Revolving Deck at the 84th Floor which offers a beautiful city view of Bangkok. We were very much safe and secure behind high concrete railing with wire mesh protection for viewers. No thrilling amusement rides for us though.

Anyway, those who would like to enjoy the best view of Cebu City without any challenging rides can do so at the Sky Observatory of the Crown Regency Tower where there are coin-operated binoculars and telescopes provided. Now you know that Cebu is not just a place for white sand beaches, Sinulog Festival, fresh seafood and luscious mangoes. With these thrilling amusement rides at the Crown Regency tower, Uptown Cebu is also a place for adventurous travelers who’d like to indulge in a different kind of fun and excitement.
