La Vista Highlands mountain resort in Negros Occidental

La Vista Highlands mountain resort in Negros Occidental

One of the advantages of bringing your own private vehicle for holiday travel is flexibility of schedule and spontaneity in your trip itinerary. After staying overnight at San Carlos City, we were getting ready for the long drive along the mountains of Don Salvador Benedicto in the afternoon to head straight to Bacolod. But mom had other plans as well. She suggested we drop by the newly opened La Vista Highlands, it’s that eye-catching resort that we’re always curious about every time we travel to and from San Carlos via the Don Salvador Benedicto route. Dad, was a bit hesitant because it was getting late in the afternoon and the van was acting-up, but we finally decided to check it out for few minutes before heading to Bacolod.

View from the entry steps showing the mid-level section of the resort. With such breathtaking mountain scene, what more could you ask for?

La Vista Highlands resort is located at Km 67 in Barangay Prosperidad, San Carlos City. If you’re traveling from San Carlos City proper, the resort is at the right side of the road. The resort owner is a prominent architect, Albert Garbanzos. According to one of the resort staff who entertained us, Garbanzos unintentionally discovered the place in one of his road trips to Bacolod, but he believes it was his destiny to own the 24-hectare area which was then a farmland. The interesting story behind La Vista Highlands, how the dream house and resort came about, is some sort of mystic fairy-tale. For Garbanzos, it seems like his long time dream came to him unexpectedly even without him pursuing it on purpose unlike a disoriented newbie tourist in frantic search for car hire USA companies the moment he arrives at the airport. Dreams do come true, and if you are destined to have them, they seek you and come to you.

This is the dream house of Architect Albert Garbanzos overlooking his resort, the La Vista Highlands.

Garbanzos designed the whole complex, including his beautiful residence situated at the top, overlooking the resort buildings and cottages. The parking area is a bit cramped and could be tricky for drivers though. I hope the owner could address this by building a better parking area that can accommodate more guests. Anyway, we wasted no time in exploring the place.

The resort is built on sloping terrain and composed of different levels. The upper level is where the Ridge Villas are located. The mid-level section, which is actually below the gate entrance level, is where most of the resort’s major amenities are, such as the two pools, conference room, dining areas and lounges. On the lowest level, are the Garden Villas, each unit can accommodate an average of 8 persons.

A welcome... and a warning. The steps leading down to where the action is. Just be careful with your steps and heed the warning sign that says, “Floors slippery when wet!”

Rules for the resort guests

We left the resort after an hour (few minutes wasn’t enough). Thanks to one of the resort staff for showing us the Garden Villas and other areas of the resort. We could have checked out the matrimonial suite and family suites at the Ridge Villas section but we were running late and the skies looked gloomy already.

Have you visited Lalimar resort in La Libertad? It is a nice place for a government run resort, food is not great but affordable. I love their infinity pool and view of Cebu.

Hi Elena, I am not sure if there are nearby restos. Maybe you can inquire from the hotel if they offer group discount for food?
