Cebu Pacific new baggage allowance
Just a quick update…I’m back in the Philippines now. My apologies for not updating this blog lately. My Europe vacation is over but it seems like I’m still on holiday mode. *wink* Anyway, thank God for the safe trip home. I just watched two in-flight movies and spent most of my time sleeping during the long flight. I stayed few days in Manila to meet Mom and finalize some important documents. Going to Bacolod, we flew via Cebu Pacific which thankfully is now serving in a much better and spacious terminal, the NAIA Terminal 3. The downside was their new baggage allowance which caught us by surprise during check-in since we were not informed by the travel agent about it.
Here’s an important advisory for those who will be traveling via Cebu Pacific:
1. Free baggage allowance = 15 kg (instead of the previous 20 kg), for tickets bought starting September 2008.
2. Excess baggage will be charged at Php100/kg (previously at Php50/kg)
It’s always good to weigh your baggage before the trip so you won’t exceed the limit and be sure to carry extra cash with you.

this information is incomplete or inaccurate. the excess baggage rate is NOT 100PhP/kg! departing from Shanghai, China on a Cebu Pacific flight to Cebu via Manila, I was forced to check my overweight carry-on bag which weighed 16kg. although I argued that the only information I had found online indicated the price should be 100PhP (about 2 US dollars), they insisted the rate of 70 Chinese Yuan (about TEN dollars) per kilogram! they charged me 1,050rmb – that’s nearly as much for my extra bag as the 1,525rmb I paid for my original one-way ticket! this airline sucks and I will never fly it again.
Hello Paul, sorry to hear about that. Yeah, I have my share of bad experiences with Cebu Pacific as well. The recent one was the rough plane landing we had (as if the plane dropped from the sky).
Anyway, please note that this post was written 2008 yet, about 2 years ago, so it’s not really an updated version. Also, if you have read carefully this post, I wrote about my trip from Manila to Bacolod, thus the excess baggage rate I wrote here was for DOMESTIC travel within the Philippines which is a lot lesser than INTERNATIONAL rates.

Note that the excess baggage rate (in your case) from Shanghai to Manila is CNY 70. Other destinations have different rates as well.
I’m not a big fan of Cebu Pacific, they really charge you for excess baggage even if it’s just 1-2 kilograms (PAL didn’t charge us when we exceeded few kilos on our recent domestic flight). I have a lot to complain but I’m still buying tickets and flying with them mostly because of the promo fares, although I have recently discovered that PAL fares are sometimes lesser for the same flight schedule.
I checked out their site just now and found out they’ve increased their domestic excess baggage rates again, from PHP100, now it’s PHP120.
