Australian Open 2010 at Melbourne Park

Every year, tennis enthusiasts get to watch their favorite players at Melbourne Park for the Australian Open tennis tournament. This event draws a lot of tourists and fans and is usually held every January. The recently concluded 2009 Australian Open drew an estimated crowd of 66,000 with champions Rafael Nadal for the men’s singles and Serena Williams for the women’s singles.

For the 2010 Australian Open, the tournament will be from January 18-31. Some fans are already excited about it and the Tennis Channel just sponsored a trip to the said event which includes free air tickets, luxury hotel accommodation plus VIP seats for the first 2 days of the tournament. Tsk… too bad, no more chances of winning since the contest has just ended but they will be sponsoring another AO trip soon.

My brother, a tennis enthusiast, would be excited about this event too. But I guess he’ll be content to watch it on TV cheering for his favorites Roger Federer and Ana Ivanovic.

140px Sharapova061021 01Too bad, last year’s women’s singles champion Maria Sharapova withdrew from the tournament due to shoulder injury. Sharapova felt sorry for not being able to defend her crown for this year. Oh well. She does look sharp on the court with Nike for her footwear and attire as she grips one of those Prince tennis rackets. Anyway, loyal Prince users would appreciate the new EX 03 technology which makes the racket head sweet spot bigger.

For those who plan on going to Australia for this much-awaited event, you still have enough time to prepare. Booking for an air ticket and hotel accommodation in advance is a must. And of course, do include visiting other tourist destinations in Melbourne to get the most of your trip.

HI Carey, nice to know your brother is also Federer and Ivanovic fan 🙂 Oh I also cry with Federer whenever he cries, hehehehe. Anyway, I believe eventually he’ll get past the record grand slams, he is still young and thankfully never been injured. Ivanovic is charming and humble and really pretty in person. I watch Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells here every year, and have lots of pictures of them and other tennis players. Anyway, I actually hope to visit Australia someday too.

Betchai, yeah my bro is such a tennis enthusiast, hehehe… tennis-playing is one of his favorite past times. Wow, nice of you to have seen those tennis stars in person and you got pics of them as well. Maybe you can also post about the tournament in your blog. 😉 Like you, Australia is one of my dream destinations.

This would make the perfect excuse for me to go to Australia – I’m a HUGE tennis fan!!

My only worries would be the heat at that time of the year. At this past Aus Open the heat was quite oppressive for some of the athletes (and spectators, too).
Definitely worth a thought, though! 😉

Hi Diva! Yup, I hope the weather won’t be extremely hot for the players and audience for the AO next year. If you do get to Australia for the AO, don’t forget to include those side trips and visits to some scenic spots in Melbourne. 😉
