Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at Vysehrad Castle, Prague
Continued from The Vyšehrad Castle in Prague
You just can’t get enough of the beautiful and imposing Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at the Vysehrad Castle in Prague.

This 19th century church is Neo-Gothic in style. You can’t miss gazing up at the church’s twin spires which identify the Vysehrad Castle when viewed from afar.

The church interior walls, ceiling vaults and columns are painted with graceful floral design with gold accent. Individual columns are painted with a large-sized image of a saint. At the side hallways are chapels with altars decorated with paintings, statues and sculptures of saints. For instance, there’s the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk consisting of a baroque painting of the saint by Karel Skréta Jr and a reliquary altar in Neo-Gothic style displaying scenes from the life of St. John. The Chapel of Czech Patron Saints (Martinická) displays a baroque painting of St. Wenceslas, being the main patron saint of the Czech Republic, and an altar of Czech patron saints by J. Kastaer.

Aside from having to crane your neck upwards to get a good glimpse of the towering twin spires, not to disregard in the Basilica’s striking façade are the intricate details of the main door and the two side doors.

LOL, thanks…I had to include a pic of me to add some personal touch and also to provide a scale reference to the cathedral door’s size.
